Sioux Falls businessman Duane Sather is the newest member of the state Game, Fish & Parks Commission.
Gov. Dennis Daugaard announced today that he has appointed Sather to the eight-member board, which sets hunting and fishing regulations and oversees GF&P operations and policies.
"Duane is an avid hunter and a former hunting lodge owner," Daugaard said in a news release. "He will bring a sportman's perspective as well as a landowner's perspective to the GF&P Commission."
Sather is a director of several private companies that build ethanol plants. He previously served as president of Sather Trucking and chairman of Sathers, Inc., a wholesale candy manufacturer and distributor.
Sather succeeds Canton lawyer Jim McMahon, who was appointed to the commission in 2008.
"It is an honor to join the commission," Sather said in the release. "South Dakota has great hunting and great fishing, and I will do everything I can to ensure that those opportunities are maximized, as well as promote our wonderful parks and campgrounds."
The appointment is subject to confirmation by the South Dakota Senate.
